Travel Photographers Guide To Anna Bay.
We visit Anna Bay on a regular basis, usually around spring. It’s a great getaway if you love landscape photography and wide open spaces. Stockton Beach is situated at the southern end of Newcastle Bight, where there is a sweeping expanse of sand and sand dunes, a landscape photographers heaven. This place is forever changing, every time we go back somethings completely new. We are always surprised by the beauty that keeps evolving. Here’s my tips on Anna Bay;
Book your accom way ahead of your trip, Anna Bay is very popular destination. We usually stay close to the beach access at Biruby beach holiday park not a bad stay and the locals are great.
Take your usual camera gear for travelling and a few extra bits you can leave safely in the cabin, oh yes and bring your drone, Insta 360 camera and your Iphone for BTS footage.
I like the warm weather so we always go at the begging of spring and if you like winter skies to get that magnificent Milky Way shots go when there’s no moon around July.
If you have a 4wd you could drive on the 30km long beach to Tin City after a 20 minute drive along beautiful Stockton Beach, you will find the hidden village of “Tin City” emerging out of the sand dunes like a mirage.
We always get amazing sunrise and sunsets from the dunes specially when there’s some dramatic clouds in the horizon, so do take a long lens.
A good friend of mine Alfonso Calero takes photo tours to Anna Bay and teaches you how to get on to manual mode and get the best out of you camera capture.
Do getup early at least an hour before sunrise and get to your selected location, check batteries are charged, plenty of memory cards a tripod and use your phone to get that BTS look to your adventure.
Here is a list of camera gear for travel photography that might help.
We started out at the sand dunes of the Worimi Conservation Lands in Port Stephens. No matter how frequently we visit, there are always fresh views across the slopes, despite the two-hour drive from Sydney.
One of the key locations we suggest to everyone travelling to NSW is this breathtaking length of coast. In the Southern Hemisphere, the sand dunes are the biggest moving dunes. They span 32 kilometres and can reach heights of 40 to 50 metres at their peak. They also border Stockton Beach, one of New South Wales' most stunning beaches.
Finding a way to the prettiest parts of the dunes has required several journeys. Each time we investigated a new section, the dunes were more higher. We've included all the information you need to visit Stockton Sand Dunes via tour, driving, or strolling now that we've stayed in a few different spots and discovered the finest sites.
